Hyundai Teases Intrado Fuel Cell Concept

Hyundai is hinting that it will be entering the fuel cell market with the Intrado concept vehicle expected to be revealed at the 2014 Geneva Auto Show. The car will encompass some of what Hyundai sees as the design and technology features that may appear in Hyundai vehicles in the near future. Based on the teaser sketch, it seems the vehicle will be based on a compact SUV design, with features that somewhat recall the style of the Nissan Juke.

Head of Hyundai design, Peter Schreyer said that the Hyundai Intrado “envisages a motoring future that encapsulates the efficiency and freedom associated with flying.” Schreyer added, “I believe in the power of mobility to deliver emotional as well as physical connections and this car helps us find again the joy of discovery. Intrado shows that future cars can be both relevant and exciting.” The vehicle will be built around a super-lightweight structure made from a mixture of advanced materials and joined using a revolutionary technique that has the potential to change the way cars are constructed in the future and will be powered by a next-generation of hydrogen fuel cell drivetrain that is smaller and lighter than the one used on the production ix35 Fuel Cell.

Hyundai already announced the Hyundai Tucson fuel cell vehicle and this new concept joins the ranks of the Tucson as well as the Toyota FCV Concept and Honda FCEV fuel cell vehicles we’ve also seen recently.
