Designing the 2015 Subaru WRX

The 2015 Subaru WRX is a car that reflects the heritage of performance and control that is part of the WRX line. WRX Project Manager Masuo Takatsu sat down to discuss the design approach the team took with the car and what they were trying to achieve. His main goal was to provide maximum driveability: the ability to move and control the car at the driver’s will.

The team was able to achieve this through improved steering response, creating  a solid grip in the rear of the car to provide a feel of security while the front provides greater control, and stiffening the car’s body which allows the suspension to move and provide a smoother ride. Finally, the new WRX has an engine that also provides for better control and allows the driver to feel the G force as the car accelerates.
