VW Fixes Silent EVs (with a Beatboxer)

As much as we love the idea of cars that don’t use any gasoline, one of our biggest gripes with pure electrics is their lack of the wondrous sounds you can get from a fossil fuel drivetrain. While some companies have gone so far as to add synthesized or sampled sound effects to overcome this problem, we rather prefer the creative solution proposed by Volkswagen in this amusing commercial spot.

VW’s fix for silent EVs? Simple, just hire beatboxer Fatih Sahin (or another talented vocal percussionist) and have them make sound effects from the rear seat. Personally, we’d go for Michael Winslow, the sound effects guy from Police Academy and Spaceballs. He’d also be able to keep us awake and laughing on long road trips.
