Lexus RC F Coupe’s Digital Gauges Hurt Our Brains

The 2015 Lexus RC F Coupe is a beautiful car with what looks to be an awesome engine under the hood. The people over at Kaizen Factor had the chance to sit in one at NAIAS 2014 and check out the car’s all-new digital gauges in action.

In this video, we see a demonstration of the new gauge cluster, which has a fixed speedometer on the right, a round digital gauge in the center and an all-digital area on the left. The center gauge is primarily the tachometer, but also shows oil temp, engine temp, lap times, current gear, speed, drive mode selection (that’s everything we caught). On the left, the dynamic display can display temp gauges, the fuel gauge, outside air temp, odometer, a lap timer, G-force meter, torque distribution, and drive mode selection (again, that’s what we caught). This just seems to be information overload. Even Audi’s new dashboard concept – which is all digital – doesn’t try to show this much information at one time.

We’re assuming all those lovely engine sounds in the video were pre-recorded, since the car was sitting on a stationary display when this was recorded. We’ll have to wait to drive the RC F Coupe to see how well the digital gauges work in the real world.
