Assemble Your Own TABBY Car in Less Than an Hour

If you have an hour to spare today, how about assembling a full-sized car? You can do that thanks to the open source TABBY framework created by OSVehicle. The TABBY platform provides an open source framework for designing vehicle components that work together and are made for easy assembly. And since the platform is open source, you can contribute your changes to improve the system.

The TABBY platform supports the use of a hybrid, all-electric, or internal combustion power plant and DIYers can choose from a two or four passenger chassis. Making the vehicle street legal requires a bit more work. A special kit is required to add lighting and other necessary equipment to the car. OSVehicle also hosts a forum where builders will be able to exchange their own custom mods and continue to evolve the platform. The final pricing for the TABBY is expected to be between $5,350 and $8,000(USD).

In the time-lapse video above, two mechanics were able to fully assemble the TABBY in about 42 minutes. Last time we bought a car at a dealership the paperwork took longer than 42 minutes.
