Volkswagen’s Amazing New Active Info Display

Volkswagen has just revealed the details for the 2015 Passat and one of the marvelous new features of the sedan is the new VW Active Info Display. VW gave us a peek into new instrument cluster in video form. The new display measures 12.3 inches diagonally and is all dynamically rendered with the exception of the safety-related indicator lights.

The whole display responds to the driving conditions and the driver’s preferences. For example, both the speedometer and tachometer are initially shown as large dials but, in the event the driver initiates GPS navigation, the two dials shrink in size and move to the side to allow a large map display in the center. Also, the rev counter changes to become a power meter for the Passat plug-in hybrid model.

A dynamic instrument cluster like this one shown by Volkswagen really changes the driving experience, allowing the driver to focus on the steering wheel cluster and reducing distractions with the center console controls. It’s great to see this being introduced in a production vehicle for 2015 and we are looking forward to seeing this type of display throughout VW’s range and in many other manufacturers’ vehicles soon.
