From the Vaults: Classic 1980s Pontiac Fiero Ad

The Pontiac Fiero got a lot of grief in the 1980s. Positioned as Pontiac’s latest sportscar, the mid-engine two seater never seemed to really have quite the right styling or power, and its pop-up headlights always seemed a little goofy (when they weren’t broken). Beginning with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, the car was never meant to compete with GM’s Corvette, but the Fiero received bad press from some reported engine fires along with poor reliability and lackluster performance. On the other hand, we still see some nice looking Fieros on the road today, so maybe the little sports car that couldn’t is having a bit of a revival.

At any rate, the Fiero is a great symbol of the 1980s and this commercial has got just about everything we love about the decade in one 30-second clip. If you’re looking for more, check out the 1987 Pontiac ad below, also featuring the Sunbird and the Trans-Am.
