Flashback: Chevy’s 1930s Animated View of a Gasoline Engine

Written by Kenny Hoeschen | September 28, 2014

There are more than 210 million licensed drivers in the Unites States, but how many people know how an internal combustion engine actually works? What better way to learn than to travel back in time to this amusing 1930s animated feature from our good friends at Chevrolet? Follow the journey of an ambitious drop of gasoline, whose only goal in life is to fulfill his destiny of powering a Chevrolet as efficiently as possible.

In this somewhat macabre story, our friend, the drop of gasoline, journeys from the pump through the gas tank and fuel line and into the carburetor, where he’s mixed with air and then into the piston where he finally meets his fate in a fiery death. But, thanks to GM’s engineers, he’s led a fortunate life by giving a perfect account of himself inside a Chevrolet engine.
