Jet-Powered Peel Trident

The Peel Trident is a tiny little car that first debuted in England back in the 1960s (and resurrected in 2010.) This diminutive car was produced for transporting a single person easily between urban destinations, and got about 100 miles per gallon. With just 4.2 horsepower, and a top speed of 28mph, one thing I never expected to see was a Peel on a drag strip. But where there’s a will, there’s a way, and some modder has taken an old Trident and outfitted it with a jet engine.

This allowed the mini car to tear down the 1/4 mile at Santa Pod Raceway in a “record setting” 23.32 seconds, hitting 78.48mph over the course of its run. That’s not exactly a good time – in fact, you could beat it by 5 seconds in a Dodge Grand Caravan – but I’m guessing it would take a stock Peel about 2 minutes to do the same. So I guess you could call it an improvement.
