Chris Harris Goes Sideways in an Aussie Ute

While Australia’s Holden plant is expected to shut down in 2017, they still have a few good cars rolling off the assembly line – not the least of which is the insane HSV Maloo GTS – a pimped-out utility wagon (or “ute” as they call them down under.) This mutant beast has a monstrous 6.2-liter supercharged V8 with 580-ish horsepower under the hood, and more torque than you’d ever need for running to the grocery or hardware store.

Chris Harris recently had the opportunity to take the totally bonkers Maloo GTS for a spin on the track while vacationing in Australia. Despite its ability to tow and carry plenty of payload, the GTS is quite deft (or is it daft?) on the track. After all, what’s the last time you saw an El Camino go from 0-to-60mph in 4.5 seconds, or smoke its tires going around a corner?
