POV Racing in a 1959 Lotus 7

by Paul Strauss

I’ve always wanted to drive a classic grand prix race car, but am convinced I’ll destroy the transmission or end up spinning it off the road. For now, I’m leaving the task up to the professionals. I’m particularly enamored of the old Lotus 7, so I really enjoyed watching this POV footage captured by racer Stefan Vapaa as he drove his dad’s old 1959 Lotus 7 through a pack of classic race cars back at the 2013 Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix.

Beyond the wonderful eye and ear candy, the video is made just that much more special as Vapaa – who gridded in 13th place at the start of the race – managed to pass numerous cars to finish in 4th place, despite being saddled with brakes that were badly overheating.
