Audi Says The R8 E-Tron Is Really Going to Happen

Audi has been claiming that it’s going to make an electric version of the R8 supercar called the R8 E-Tron since Conrad III was elected Emperor. As cool as the various concepts looked, it quickly got the the point where they were no longer treated as anything that might even be related to a potential production car.

Now Audi says the the R8 E-Tron is really going to happen as a variant of the recently unveiled and dangerously good-looking new R8. The E-Tron would make 456 horsepower and 679 lb-ft of torque which would be good for a 3.9 second 0-60. Range would be about 280 miles. All in all, it sounds like a convincing package; a more handling-centric alternative to Tesla’s practically minded Model S. The R8 E-Tron will be built “upon customer request,” because Audi knows that electric supercars probably aren’t going to be the next Toyota Camry when it comes to sales.
