The Civic Type R managed to prove itself on the track before hitting the streets, and in such a wonderful manner too, thanks to Honda’s British Touring Car Championship driver Gordon Shedden. Shedden and WSR BMW’s Andy Priaulx – who was driving a BMW 125i M – gave the audience at Brands Hatch a memorable finish, with Shedden winning by just 0.040s.

Later that day Honda driver Matt Neal also placed first in the Type R, giving the car even more bragging rights.
