BMW has announced that the all-new 2016 X1 SUV or Sports Activity Vehicle as BMW calls it will be landing in showrooms in the U.S. this fall. The attractive little SUV will at launch be offered in only one version here called the BMW X1 xDrive28i. That designation means that it is an all-wheel drive vehicle.

Power for the crossover comes from 2.0L twin turbo 4-cylinder that makes 228hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. That is enough power and torque to make the X1 the most powerful vehicles in its class. The engine is mated with an 8-speed sport automatic transmission. The car has more cargo room than the outgoing version and 1.5-inches more rear legroom with standard seats.

Get the optional adjustable rear seats and you get 2.5-inches more rear legroom. BMW also fits the vehicle with full LED headlights, fog lamps, remote controlled locks and keyless ignition. Electric windows and heated mirrors are standard along with dynamic cruise control. Pricing and fuel economy numbers will be unveiled closer to launch.
