Mazda Pits 1990 Miata Against 2016 MX-5

There are still a plethora of early Mazda Miata roadsters ripping around the streets. Those early NA cars are incredibly fun to drive at the track, despite them having very little power. Mazda worked hard to make the new 2016 MX-5 as fun to drive as the original car.

The company decided to pit the cars against each other at a track in Spain to see which would come out on top. Since the 1990 has a lot of age to carry around and less power, it was given a 4-second head start. Both cars were driven by endurance racers.

I’m not surprised by the outcome of the race, but watch the video to see for yourself. The most interesting thing to me was seeing the 2016 MX-5 right behind the 1990 Miata so you can see the size difference between the two cars, with the latest model being more than 2 inches wider and a 2 inch longer wheelbase than the original.
