Volvo Buys Polestar to Be Its In-House Tuning Firm

I can say with certainty that before those sexy blue Polestar Volvo cars turned up in the last year or so, I had zero interest in Volvo. Their cars were just boring to me. That has changed with the Polestar S60 and V60, making me want a Volvo for the first time.

Volvo apparently likes its relationship with Polestar. In fact, it has purchased 100% of the company to be its in-house tuning firm. That means Mercedes has AMG, BMW has M, and now Volvo has Polestar. I also hope that this means lots more Polestar models are in the works.

Polestar has been a motorsports partner with Volvo since 1996. For now, Volvo is predicting between 1000 and 1500 Polestar vehicles will be made each year moving forward. That’s as much as twice the 750-unit run Volvo is whipping up for 2016.
