EVO Pits Audi RS3 Against VW Golf R

For a long time, the hot hatch segment avoided the US, but that has changed with cars like the Ford Focus ST and the Focus RS coming. Sadly, the WRX hatch is no longer offered here. The VW Golf R can be purchased here and it’s a beast of a little car. In this video, EVO compares the Golf R to the Audi RS3 on the track to see which comes out on top.

On paper is looks like an easy win for the Audi thanks to its 367 hp output. The Golf R has a scant 301 hp by comparison. It’s not always raw power that wins on out the track though.

You’ll have to watch the video to see if you agree with the winner. I’d say much of who comes out on top at the track depends on the track – and the driver. A venue with more straights favors the higher horsepower car, whereas one with more corners evens the playing field.
