Audi A8 L Security is the Most Armored Civilian Car

I recently talked about the Land Rover Sentinel, which had a VR8 rating for ballistic protection. If that isn’t secure enough for you and yours, the Audi A8 L Security has debuted and this beast kicks things up a notch. It carries a protection rating of VR9, which is the highest rating for civilian vehicles, and on par with the Mercedes S600 Guard.

It can resist explosive charges and bullets thanks to its hot-formed steel armor, which meets ERV 2010 guidelines. I’m not sure what that means, but considering the Sentinel could survive grenades, 15 kg TNT explosions, and assault rifle fire, the Audi must be quite safe.

The car has an intercom/PA system, selective door unlocking, optional emergency exit, fire extinguisher system, and an emergency fresh air system. Power comes from a twin-turbo 4.0l V8 making 435 hp and 443 lb-ft. of torque. Buyers can also get a 6.0L W12 making 500 hp and 461 lb-ft. of torque. It rides on run-flat tires, though those limit top speed to 131 mph. Both versions offer AWD.

There’s no word on pricing, but if you’re the type of person who needs this level of security, money is likely no object.
