2016 Mazda MX-5 Cup Racer Costs $53k Ready to Race

Factory -built racing cars that are ready to hit the track can be incredibly expensive. Take that M6 GT3 racer from BMW that cost around $430,000 ready to run. For racers on a much (much, much, much) more modest budget, Mazda has rolled out the MX-5 Cup car and the price is nearly affordable at $53,000.

You can buy a lot of street cars for that price, but in the racing world, that is a raging bargain for a turnkey professionally prepped car that is legal in multiple racing events. In fact this car is eligible to run the in the MX-5 Cup, SCCA, and NASA events.

The car starts life as a normal 2016 MX-5 and then gets a host of mods for safety and performance on the track. Those include the fancy roll cage, upgraded Brembo brakes, a racing suspension, and enhanced cooling systems, among other things.

You can begin the order process on the Mazda Motor Sports website now, and deliveries of the MX-5 Cup Racer will start later this year. The MX-5 Cup series champion wins a $200k scholarship to run in more advanced racing series with Mazda.
