Hyundai to Launch Genesis as Global Luxury Brand

Hyundai has made an interesting (but not unexpected) announcement that will see the company spin off one of its nameplates as an entire sub-brand. We had a look at the 2015 Genesis 5.0 coupe last summer and the car was impressive. That Genesis name is now going to launch globally as a luxury marquee.

Hyundai plans to launch six new Genesis models by 2020 and intends on competing with the world’s most renowned luxury brands. We can assume this means that the Genesis cars will be pricier than Hyundais, though that’s already been the case with the current Genesis. I also have to assume this means that the Hyundai Genesis will get a new name, more likely, it’ll move over to the new brand, hopefully along with the gorgeous Vision G sports coupe concept.

“We have created this new Genesis brand with a complete focus on our customers who want smart ownership experiences that save time and effort, with practical innovations that enhance satisfaction. The Genesis brand will fulfill these expectations, becoming a market leader through our human-centered brand strategy,” said Euisun Chung, Hyundai Motor Company Vice Chairman.
