Genovation is a company that makes high-tech “green” vehicles. Along the way, they’ve also built an insanely powerful experimental EV – the Genovation eXtreme Electric (or GXE). The GXE has now laid claim to the IMRA top speed record for a street legal all electric car. The record-setting run was made at the Shuttle Landing Facility in Florida, which has a 3-mile-long runway.

The top speed run was made by driver Johnny Bohmer, along with passenger Robert Simpson in the car on February 23, 2016. The duo were able to reach 186.8 mph on all electric power. The EV is based on a 2006 Z06 Corvette using a battery management system, inverters, batteries, and electric motors to make over 700 hp and 600 lb-ft. of torque. When not being pushed to top speed, the car has a 130-mile driving range with normal use.

“We are thrilled that the result of our development testing led to the setting of this record,” said Genovation CEO Andrew Saul. “Based on our experience so far, we believe the car to be extremely robust as we set the record on our first day of testing. We fully expect the car to do a lot more.”
