Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Goes over 170mph on Ice

by Shane McGlaun

You don’t have to look far to find proof that many drivers out there simply don’t have the skills needed to handle all the power a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat can put down. With 707 hp on tap, driving a Hellcat on dry roads is a challenge for many. However, that power didn’t stop Alex Danielsson from going for a record on ice for top speed in a Hellcat.

The guy took a Challenger Hellcat, fitted it with studded ice tires, and set out on a slippery frozen lake to go for the record. Apparently, there is no official world record for driving fast on ice, but his top speed was 274.56 km/h, or 170.6 mph. The speedometer actually showed an even higher speed – but that’s due to wheelspin. The actual speed was determined using GPS telemetry for accuracy.

On dry pavement, the car will reach 202 mph, which is really fast for a big and heavy brick. Watch the video below to see the high speed run. Even with the studded tires, the car looks like a bit of a handful at that speed.
