Ken Block is very well known driver in rallycross and other motorsports. He is perhaps best known for his often awesome Gymkhana videos, in which he tears up roads in a hopped up Ford of some sort. Block and teammate Andreas Bakkerud needed a new race car for the rallycross season, and Ford Performance built it for them. A new video series will chronicle the entire process of making the Ford Focus RS RX racing car.

The first episode in the Project RX series is here can it is called Design and Development. The video explores what it took to optimize and modify what started as a stock Focus RS for championship level performance. While these cars might look similar to their production counterparts, it’s clear that race cars are highly custom constructions.

It’s worth taking 3 minutes of your time to see just some of the effort that goes into designing a race car.
