Ford GT Carbon Fiber Wheels Shave Weight and Look Good Doing it

One of the cool things about the Shelby GT350R is that it comes with carbon fiber wheels. While they get the weight benefits, the one downside was that its wheels were painted black so you couldn’t see the carbon fiber. The Ford GT will have forged aluminum wheels as standard equipment, but one of the options will be some sexy carbon fiber wheels.

On the GT, these wheels can be had in matte finish or gloss with both finishes letting you see the carbon fiber weave inside. Ford says that wheels are stronger than the standard forged aluminum offerings while being lighter and improving handling.

The carbon wheels are the same 8.5″ x 20″ front and 11.5″ x 20″ rear sizes that the standard aluminum wheels come in. Each carbon fiber wheel cuts two pounds of unsprung weight compared to the stock aluminum offerings, and reduce inertia by 25%. In addition, the material is said to reduce noise, vibration, and harshness compared to metal wheels.

There is no word on just how much the carbon fiber wheel option will add to the base price, but don’t expect it to be cheap.
