The 595hp Nissan GT-R NISMO set a lap time at Nürburgring of 7:08.69, which makes the GT-R NISMO the holder of the volume production car lap record at the German road course. The Nissan NISMO team recently shared this behind the scenes video of the work that went into preparing the car and setting the lap time.

Beginning in July of this year, the team traveled to Nürburgring to test the car and make adjustments to the aerodynamics in order to provide more downforce and deliver more of the car’s power to the road. Drivers Michael Krumm and Sebastien Buemi (who, interestingly, first trained on the Gran Turismo video game) and the rest of the NISMO team explain how the team approached improvements not only to the downforce, but to the suspension, brakes and other elements of the vehicle. The drivers fought against horrible weather – rain and fog – to test various setups of the car while it was tuned. Of course, the results speak for themselves. We’re anxious to hear more about the GT-R NISMO when the production specs and pricing are revealed by Nissan.
