1997 McLaren F1 GTR Racer up for Auction

Auction house Gooding & Company is offering this 1997 McLaren F1 GTR Longtail race car at its Scottsdale auction on January 17-18, 2014. This exceptional car was raced competitively for many years, including wins at Hockenheim and Helsinki, as well as several other podium finishes.

The car is the most successful BMW Team car in private hands and will be sold in its iconic FINA livery. The F1 GTR has a 5,995 CC BMW Motorsport DOHC S70/3 60° V-12 engine, Tag electronic fuel injection, puts out 604hp at 6,500 RPM and has a 6-speed sequential XTRAC gearbox, Brembo carbon-fiber disc brakes and 4-wheel independent double-wishbone suspension with light-alloy dampers and coaxial coil springs.

It is expected to be sold for between $5,000,000 to $7,000,000(USD). This is a rare opportunity to purchase a privately owned race car and it’ll be interesting to see where it ends up.
