Camping with a VW Beetle and a 5th-Wheel Camper

by Kenny Hoeschen

Although most of us in the Northern Hemisphere are still digging out from the recent snows, it’s never too early to begin planning for your summer driving excursions. And why not go camping with a deluxe fifth-wheel trailer. Who needs a 3/4 ton pickup to tow it when you have a 1974 VW Beetle in the garage?

This “Shadow” trailer was designed by Harmon Industries in the early 1970s to be able to be towed with the family car – in this case, the “mini” Volkswagen Beetle. That 360-degree turning would either make parking the camper a lot easier or would cause us to immediately drive into a lake. Either way, we love the way the commentator takes every opportunity to slam the small size of the Beetle. Give it a rest already, buddy.
