Little Tikes Cozy Coupe Gets Upsized

John Bitmead of Oxfordshire, England decided to take the iconic plastic kids’ car, the Little Tikes Cozy Coupe and created a full-sized, roadworthy version. Bitmead and his brother, Geoff, began with a Daewoo Matiz as a starting point. Creating the Cozy Coupe required more than 1,000 hours of time and roughly $6,500 (USD) in parts. Now it’s got an 800cc gas engine, real headlights and even a floor, so John doesn’t have to use his feet to push it down the road. The oversized kid’s car does 0-to-60 at a snail’s pace of 17 seconds. Still no windows, though, which is authentic if a bit chilly sometimes.

Perhaps the greatest part of the story is that John uses the Not-So-Cozy Coupe to raise money for children’s charities by driving it in local events. Makes one wonder if you can get 16 inch hard plastic wheels to give it that authentic “grind down the driveway” noise?

You can check out more pics of the build over on the Daily Mail Online.
