SMART Electric Goes Off-Roading, Badly

Written by Kenny Hoeschen | February 4, 2014

At 95Octane, our goal is to feature cars that we would want to drive, either on the track, off road, or on a daily commute. As it turns out, we don’t think the SMART car falls into any of those categories. But, we still love this ad that premiered during the Superbowl especially the tongue-in-cheek attitude of taking a SMART electric off road.

We agree with the premise that a small car often makes more sense in the city for short drives and certainly to find parking. If you’re going to drive a full-size Chevy Suburban into the streets of Chicago or D.C. and you expect to find street parking, you’re going to have a bad time. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a small, practical car for the city, we think you’re better off looking at something like a MINI, BMW i3, or a VW Golf R.
