Mobil’s Morbid Safety Ad from the 1960s

Mobil obviously took road safety very seriously back in the 1960s, as shown in this rather morbid auto safety ad in which they drop a car off the roof of a 10-story building to demonstrate what a crash is like at 60 mph. According to the helpful comments on YouTube, we’re looking at a 1958 Studebaker Lark coming to its untimely demise.

Still, this Mobil ad is like watching the Von Trapps sing Do-Re-Mi compared to the road safety ads in Australia. Have a look at the montage below from the past 20 years of ads from Victoria’s Transport Accident Commission:
