Ken Block and his co-driver Alex Gelsomino had a race-ending crash in the 2013 Lake Superior Performance Rally back in October. Block has just released the incredible in-car footage of the crash along with his and Gelsomino’s explanation of what caused the crash. As Block describes it, it was the fastest, biggest crash he’s ever had in his career.

As it turns out, there were two simple letters missing in the pace notes: the word “in”. Because of that, when the road narrowed, Block hit a clump of dirt on the side of the road that was hidden from view and the car ended up cart wheeling down one of the final stages of the season, end over end, before coming to a stop against a tree. Although that was the end of racing for the team that day, both were fortunate to walk away with only minor injuries.
