The Stig Takes a Lap in the Caterham 620R

Caterham is bringing its line of ultralight performance cars to the United States soon, so you’ll be able to own one and drive it to your local supermarket at some point. But Top Gear’s James May has a few sound words of advice when you’re trying to decide between the blistering 620R and another model, like the Caterham 160.

Although 620R achieves a 0-to-60 time of just 2.79 seconds with a 310 horsepower supercharged 2.0 liter engine under the hood, May would like to point out that it’s not the most practical car for real world use… it doesn’t even have a windshield.

In the video here, the Stig took one out for a very quick lap on a very wet Top Gear test track. In the end it turned in a time of 1:22.3, which ties it with the Audi R8 V10 Spyder and the Porsche 911 GT3 RS – both on dry pavement. Not bad.

While it definitely looks like a challenge in the corners, we still want to drive one.
