F1 2013 vs. 2014 Exhaust Sound Comparison

As we already know, Formula 1 cars have been forced to make changes this year both for safety and fuel efficiency reasons. And while the technology inside of 2014’s F1 cars is impressive, we have to say they’ve lost something important – their sound.

In this comparison clip that’s making the rounds on Reddit, you’ll hear a demonstration of 2013’s 2.4L V8 F1 cars whizzing by at Australia’s Albert Park, followed by this year’s updated 1.6L V6 turbo cars. The difference? Disappointing to say the least.

While it’s still fun to watch the cars go by at insane speeds, it’s going to take a long time for us to get used to the significantly diminished engine sounds of the current gen cars. Of course, Formula E is going to be even quieter.
