Four-Minute Frame Swap

Written by Paul Strauss | April 3, 2014

As more and more automakers move away from body-on-frame construction to unibody designs, there are still a handful of trucks and 4X4s that have stayed true to their roots. Beyond their ruggedness, another less obvious advantage is that the frame can actually be replaced on these vehicles.

It’s not something we see done often, but the guys at Framingham, MA restoration shop J. White’s Automotive have boiled down the process of replacing the old rusted out frame on a 2004 Land Rover Discovery Series II into a four-minute time-lapse. It’s really quite impressive to see that it’s possible to take apart a 10 year-old car and give it a brand new frame. That takes serious skills.

Yes, we know it took them a whole lot longer than four minutes in real time, but we just kinda liked the title so we stuck with it.
