How to Do a Burnout in a Yugo

Written by Paul Strauss | May 9, 2014

There are few cars that live up to the craptacularness of the Yugo. The cars were basically a licensed version of a Fiat 127, somehow made even uglier, and produced in what was then Yugoslavia. At the peak of their popularity, these tiny cars not only suffered from terrible build quality, cheap materials and poor drivetrains, they were horribly uncomfortable. This, coupled with the fact that the cars were front-wheel drive and there was no way to lock the rear brakes, means the Yugo is a terrible candidate for doing burnouts. But where there’s a will (and a smartphone camera) there’s a way.

In this clip we found up on YouTube, you’ll get to see the ridiculous measures required to get a Yugo to burn rubber. And yes, it involves having your buddies hold the car in place while the driver guns it. We suppose the only reason that nobody got run over while doing this is that the Yugo has so little power, and weighs under 2,000 lbs.

Of course, there is one other way to do a Yugo burnout…
