Castrol EDGE Blackout: Racing into Darkness

A while back we told you about Blackout, a promo clip for Castrol EDGE motor oil, in which Ken Block and a team of drivers would be challenged to race in total darkness. Well, the clip just dropped, and while it wasn’t really shot in complete darkness, it’s still great fun to watch.

In the clip, drivers Ken Block, Augusto Farfus, Adrian Zaugg and Mike Rockenfeller were each challenged to take on obstacles comprised of lights or laser beams. For the most part, the drivers were racing into darkness ahead of them, though the course was lit as they went, making for what would turn out to be as much a cool light show as a feast for gearheads.

Our favorite moment: when Ken jumps his Fiesta ST RX43 over Rockenfeller’s Audi R8 V10 at just the right time. And if you’re thinking the presence of light made that jump any less challenging, keep this in mind: Ken’s gauges were blacked out, and the track was wet.
