2015 MINI Cooper 5 Door
MINI has expanded its lineup of sporty tiny cars with a big heart with the new MINI Cooper 5 Door. Although based on the MINI Cooper two-door coupe, this 5 Door’s longer wheelbase and extra pair of doors provide for greater functionality and position it as an alternative to the wagon-like Clubman.
With the MINI Cooper 5 Door, MINI stretched the wheelbase of the two-door hatchback by 2.8 inches, adding more rear seat legroom and a bit more headroom in the back also. It’s also got a slightly larger luggage space as a result. The overall length is 6.3 inches longer and comes in at 157 inches from bumper to bumper. The two engine options are the same as the three-door model: a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine at 134hp and 162 lb-ft. of torque or the Cooper S model with a 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine with 189 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque. Each is mated to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission and the Cooper S will be able to go from 0-to-100 kmh (62 mph) in 6.8 seconds.
Expect the new 5 Door to be priced at $1,000 over the equivalent three-door models (starting at $22,300 USD) with deliveries beginning in early 2015. No word on when we’ll see the John Cooper Works edition, but we’re sure MINI is busy working on it as we write this.
