Range Rover Evoque Tears up the Oman Desert

We recently spent some quality time behind the wheel of the 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, and were quite pleased with its versatility and comfort for everyday driving. But being in Chicago, we didn’t really get a chance to put it through its paces in a harsh environment (other than our asteroid-sized potholes.) That’s okay, because Land Rover driver Liam Wilson has done it for us.

In this clip from Land Rover UK, Wilson takes the urban-friendly Evoque and heads out to the desert of Oman to kick its tires and exercise its suspension more than we could ever do. The luxury SUV makes quick work of the country’s steep sand dunes, loose gravel trails, and even cuts through streams.

We especially love how much fun can be had with the dynamic stability control dialed down, as Liam demonstrates on the flat sands. He never takes on any really big boulders, but the ground clearance on the Evoque wasn’t really designed for that sort of serious off-roading. Still it’s impressive that this vehicle can go from picking the kids up at school to conquering steep sand dunes on the same day without flinching.
