2015 Challenger Hellcat Gets over 700 Horsepower

Written by Paul Strauss | July 2, 2014

We recently had the good fortune to see the top-of-the-line 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat in person, and even got to hear it rev its mighty engine. But at the time, all we knew was that it was going to have “over 600 horsepower.” Well, Chrysler was telling the truth, but they dramatically downplayed the Hellcat’s power. In fact, the Hellcat’s 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 will be able to produce a whopping 707 horsepower, along with 650 lb-ft. of torque.

While the video from Dodge above is pretty to look at, it doesn’t really give you a good sense of how all of that power sounds. Instead, listen to the revs we recorded during a recent media event:

For comparison’s sake, the current Camaro ZL1 has 580 horses, and the Shelby GT500 has 662 horsepower. As far as we know, this is the first time an American production car has come from the factory with more than 700 horsepower.
