The Bug Movie: A Kickstarter Documentary

Filmmaker Damon Ristau is planning to make a full-length documentary movie about one of the most iconic and best-loved cars in history, the Volkswagen Beetle. This film will follow along the lines of his prior movie which focused on the VW Bus, aptly named The Bus Movie. Now Ristau wishes to share “the greatest automotive story ever told,” the story of the VW Bug and its famed history as a race car, art car, grocery getter, and road warrior.

Ristau explains the goals for his Kickstarter project in the clip above. You can also see an sample scene from the film in which he comes across a neglected  “barn find” Beetle.

If you love the old Beetles, back the film now on Kickstarter. He’s already just about reached his $40,000 goal and the campaign ends on July 11. For a pledge of $20 or more, you’ll get a private link to view the completed film online before it is released publicly and for $35 you’ll get a DVD copy.
