Recreating the Silver Arrow Racing Era

The Silver Arrow motor racing era is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, but despite its racing heritage and legendary races, there is not a lot of photographic imagery from the era to capture the essence of the racing. Photographic techniques simply hadn’t yet developed to allow much of the racing to be captured.

The Silver Arrows Project is recreating the story of the Silver Arrows by making large format prints of Silver Arrows in action – with detail and scale that simply wasn’t possible in the 1930s. Using a combination of original photography with the most advanced 3D graphics, the project brought the legendary silver cars of Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union – along with other famous brands – back to life.

From the first Silver Arrow participating in the 1934  German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring to the last race in Germany in 1939 before the start of World War II, the team has created some absolutely beautiful images of the cars in action.
