How to Charge a BMW i3 Anywhere

Our friends over at Gadget Review spent some quality time behind the wheel of BMW’s funky little i3. I drove the vehicle briefly last year, and was very impressed with everything BMW packed into the diminutive electric car. Obviously, one of the trickiest things about any pure-electric is range anxiety, and while BMW does offer a $4000 optional range extender to help you out in a pinch, it sure would be nice if that were included with the car.

Gadget Review has a different – and far cheaper method – using an everyday gas-powered industrial generator to do the trick. Does it work? Watch the video and find out how well the E-Bimmer did in the charging test. While the idea of using the generator outside the car when its stopped seems rational, we already learned from Top Gear that driving with a generator inside a car is a terrible idea.
