The World’s Quickest Street Legal Car

British folks can tell you that the old 4-cylinder Vauxhall Victor was nothing to write home about. But that didn’t stop one man from taking this ordinary 1972 family sedan and converting it into a beast that can go from 0-to-60 in just about 1 second flat.

In this classic clip from Fifth Gear, host Jonny Smith spent some time with Andy Frost, the auto mechanic behind Red Victor 1. This tricked-out Vauxhall Victor has a monstrous 9.3 liter V8 under the hood with over 2,200 horsepower. While the idea of stripping down old cars and putting massive engines in them for drag-racing is nothing new, the Red Victor 1 is faster than most, and is also perfectly legal to drive on the streets. Thought it’s not exactly quiet. And getting just about 5mpg in everyday use, it’s not going far without refueling either.

Over the years since the episode aired, Andy has continued to modify the car, and it’s now called Red Victor 3. The updated car now has 3,000 horsepower and is capable of doing the 1/4 mile in an astounding 6.5 seconds at 227mph, which makes it faster than just about anything besides a top fuel dragster.
