The General Lee vs. The Starsky & Hutchmobile

The Dukes of Hazzard’s 1969 Dodge Charger and Starsky & Hutch’s 1975 Ford Gran Torino are two of the most iconic cars in the history of television. In this classic clip from Fifth Gear, they put the two classic muscle cars head to head in a battle to see which would come out on top.

Sadly, Fifth Gear took the two cars out on the Rockingham Speedway, instead of taking them on the sort of punishing country roads and San Francisco hills found in their respective TV series.

Both cars weigh over two tons and are powered by hefty V8s. The Charger tested here came with a massive 7.2-liter 380hp engine, while the Gran Torino’s 5.8-liter V8 engine output 253hp. But these are old engines, and the cars are long and heavy, so neither vehicle is exactly nimble on a track. Still, it’s cool to see these cars go up against each other on a track.

It would be fun to see a drag race between a bunch of classic TV and movie vehicles. I propose these two, plus Back to the Future’s DeLorean, Ghostbusters’ Ecto-1, the Bluesmobile, and Herbie the Love Bug.
