Jaguar Reveals AWD F-Type R Coupe

The Jaguar F-Type R Coupe is already one of the best driver’s cars on the road being made today. But with great power comes great responsibility, and when you’re pushing 550 horses to a rear axle, it can get a little hairy in the turns. It makes for some thrilling powerslides, but if you’re gunning for the top time at the track, sliding around a corner isn’t going to buy you anything but lost time. This means that despite its power and technology, the F-Type R sometimes loses out on the track to AWD cars like the Nissan GT-R and Porsche 911 4S. That’s about to change with the announcement that Jaguar is working on an all-wheel drive variant of the F-Type R Coupe.

Combined with Jaguar’s Intelligent Driveline Dynamics system, this could be the F-Type to beat all F-Types. Not only does it maintain its enormous torque and breakneck acceleration, it should be far more confident and predictable in the corners. As an added bonus, the AWD model trims a tenth of a second off the F-Type R Coupe’s 0-to-60 time, dropping down to 3.9 seconds. Plus, you just might be able to drive this F-Type in the winter without having to worry about fishtailing as much.

There’s no word on if the AWD drivetrain will be available as an option on the convertible F-Type as well. We’ll have to wait until November 19th, during the 2014 LA Auto Show for more details. I, for one can’t wait to get behind the wheel of one of these.
