BMW offers a large range of paints for new owners to choose from, but its most exclusive and expensive paint is Pure Metal Silver. The chrome-like finish is available only through the German automaker’s Individual Manufaktur program. With a multi-part finish that includes millions of aluminum flakes embedded in the final topcoat, any car that is to be painted in Pure Metal Silver is pulled from the regular assembly line to receive special attention.

After prepping the body for painting, the first color the BMW receives is Glacier Silver Metallic. Following that, the Pure Metal Silver topcoat is applied. Special attention must be paid to ensure that each metal flake is applied from the same direction or the inconsistency would be obvious on the finished BMW.

With a price tag of $10,000 (USD) just for the special paint finish, Pure Metal Silver is BMW’s most expensive finish option.
