The Spec E30 race class is made up of bare-bones BMW 325is made between 1987 and 1991 – all spec’d out pretty much identically. In this on-board video from the NASA Spec E30 Eastern States Championship, driver Sandro Espinosa ended up with a 39th place starting position due to a disqualification during a pre-race inspection.

But you can never keep a good man down, and Espinosa managed to push his way through the crowded field over the course of the 38 minute-long race, gradually clawing his way all the way into 3rd place. Especially satisfying is the evil little laugh he lets out as he crosses the finish line.

But that’s not where the story ends. It turns out that the 1st and 2nd place finishers had illegally modified their cars, and were disqualified – ultimately making Sandro the winner of the race.
