It’s a battle which happens each and every time that America’s big three automakers release an update to their muscle cars. The ongoing battle for supremacy is a bit lopsided this time though, with the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat sporting over 700 horsepower, the Chevy Camaro Z/28 rocking 505 horses, and the Mustang GT 5.0 with “just” 435 ponies. But horsepower alone does not a car make, and in this 15 minute video from Automobile Magazine, you’ll learn about just what makes these three cars tick.

To test out their capabilities, the guys took the latest models of the three muscle cars out to the Gingerman Raceway and the country roads in and around South Haven, Michigan.

While the Mustang is far more refined and comfortable than it’s ever been before, the Hellcat is heavy, loud and overpowered, and the Z/28 is a serious enthusiast’s car, which sacrifices creature comforts for track time. I would be curious to see how the Shelby GT350 stacked up against the others, or better yet, Galpin’s Rocket Mustang.
