Mercedes-Benz dives head first into the deep end of the compact crossover pool with its new GLE Coupe. With a sporty design evolved from the Concept Coupé SUV, the US will be getting the powerful GLE 450 AMG 4MATIC model. Clearly targeted to take on the BMW X6, the GLE Coupe looks like it could be a real winner.

It packs a 362 horsepower twin-turbocharged V6 engine, capable of producing 384 lb.-ft. of torque, connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Mercedes is especially concerned about providing a nimble and sporty handling experience, so they’re offering such features as an air suspension system, and continuous damping, both of which should help provide stability and confidence. In addition, their active roll-stabilization system improve ride comfort as well as helps level out the car with uneven payloads. Multiple driving modes let drivers choose between aggressive and comfortable riding dynamics.

The exterior styling package includes special AMG front and rear aprons, a color-matched rear spoiler, and either 21-inch or 22-inch AMG light-alloy rims. Inside, it’s tastefully appointed with AMG sport seats, a nappa leather sports steering wheel, aluminum trim and brushed stainless sports pedals. Carbon fiber and piano finish accents are also available options. When fully loaded, the car offers such features as blind spot monitoring, emergency braking, a 360º parking camera, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a Bang & Olufsen sound system.
