Porsche 912: Revenge of the Black Sheep

Written by Paul Strauss | December 11, 2014

With buyers concerned about the high price of the original Porsche 911, the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer responded with the release of the Porsche 912 back in 1965. The car looked virtually the same as the 911, but had the old flat 4-cylinder engine found in the earlier Porsche 356. Despite its obvious weight advantages over the 911, the 912 has long been dismissed by rabid Porsche fans as an undesirable car – the “poor man’s 911” if you will.

In this short documentary by Petrolicious, we’re introduced to Julien Borne, a man who purchased and subsequently restored a 1967 Porsche 912. It’s a wonderful tale about underdogs, and the fact that just because you’re not in the fanciest car on the road that you can’t still have a great time driving.
